September 2019

Growing up in a Mexican family meant getting to enjoy fresh fruits in many forms throughout the seasons! My favorite fruity foods were paletas (popsicles), empanadas (turnovers), and of course, agua frescas (fresh fruit waters)! My flavor preferences; mango, peach, berry, and watermelon.

These days, so many store-bought juices are loaded with sugar, artificial colors/flavors, and chemical ascorbic acid, which incidentally, can irritate people’s bladders in the worst way. Agua Fresca is so easy to make, and it can be made from any fresh fruits, even with frozen fruits during the colder months, providing our bodies with a NATURAL source of vitamin C.

Are they time-consuming to make? Absolutely not! I simply wash and chop all the fruit, put into my Vitamix, add spring water, lemon juice, coconut nectar (if needed), blend, and pour into glass jars. These fresh juices will keep in the refrigerator for up to three days. The six flavors pictured, from the top left are hibiscus, watermelon, mango, cucumber, strawberry, and cantaloupe.

  • Recipe times will vary between 10 minutes to 45 minutes.

These recipes are:
