Do you struggle with sugar cravings, too? When I was younger, I had a demanding sweet tooth and didn’t have the discipline to say no to sugar in any form. Consequently, all of my bad sugary habits got me and my body into trouble. When living in Japan during my 20’s, I made it a priority to carve out some time to study cooking and Macrobiotic foods. I learned that if you start your day with a bowl of pumpkin soup, you will help your body not to crave, to resist sugars throughout the day! Well, I did this for YEARS, and it worked. Makes 6 to 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 15-oz can of organic pumpkin pureeor 2 cups of steamed kabocha pumpkin 
  • 4 cups organic chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/3 cup whole fat coconut milk or heavy cream
  • 1 small onion, quartered
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1-2 tablespoons of maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon of grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cumin powder
  • 2 tablespoons of Raw Coconut Aminos or 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt (optional)

How To

  1. Combine ingredients in a high-speed blender. Pulse for 30 seconds or until a creamy puree is achieved. 
  2. Pour puree into a medium saucepan and simmer for 30 minutes. Garnish with your chosen ingredients. Ladle into individual mugs or bowls. Serve immediately.
