I was invited to visit recently and was blown away by how delicious the homemade sauces are. Their bowls are highly customizable, and their dole whip soft serve with salted coconut caramel sauce is out of this world delicious. There is also a delightful selection of baked goods, which can be made into larger, custom orders upon request.

Il Fornello

Il Fornello was one of the first Toronto restaurants to get on board with offering gluten-free pasta and pizza options at their restaurants for customers with dietary needs. Ashley's Top 10 Gluten-Free Spots in Toronto

by Ashley Gismondi

You might be wondering what the gluten-free scene is like in Toronto, and I'm here to assure you that it's a gluten-free paradise! While this is not an exhaustive list of all the places to dine, it is a list of my personal gluten-free favourites.

Riz

This restaurant has an extensive gluten-free pan Asian menu with both "a la carte" and "all you can taste" options. They are one of several certified Gluten Free Restaurants in Canada and is 100% Celiac Safe. Some of my favourite dishes here are the dumplings, sushi pizza, vegetable tempura and deep fried bananas with ice cream.

Rosalinda

A relative newcomer to the Toronto restaurant scene, Rosalinda is nestled in the financial district. They specialize in vegan Mexican fare. Nearly the entire menu is gluten-free (or can be modified to be gluten-free). Only gluten-free items go in the fryer, and the servers are incredibly knowledgeable about food allergies and restrictions. Everything is tapas style, and my favourite dishes were the mini-potato and mushroom flautas and the rum roasted pineapple. Not only is the decor here beautiful, but the drinks are also creative.

Impact Kitchen

You won't find any junk at this restaurant as this place is frequented by athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike. All the ingredients that go into these dishes are wholesome, fresh, local, and organic. Think packed smoothies, healthy brunch, and loaded bowls. This restaurant is 100% gluten-free and my favourite dish is the paleo waffles with cashew cream. I also really like their baked goods, especially the chocolate cookie. There are currently two locations in Toronto with plans for a third in the near future. There are several paleo and vegan options on the menu as well.

Kupfert & Kim

Their motto is "wheatless & meatless". Rest assured, everything at this fast-casual spot is gluten-free and vegan. I really enjoy the bowls, smoothies and baked goods. My favourite bowls are the Oaxaca and the Poke Poke. I also recommend trying their burger of the day on a bed of brown rice or greens. If you get there early enough to grab a Cashew cookie, trust me, you won't regret your purchase!

Simple Kitchen

Simple Kitchen is a paleo inspired restaurant in the west end of Toronto. Everything here is healthy and 100% gluten-free. Owners Erin and Joe are super friendly and have created a space where you can build your own meals, complete with wholesome, fresh and unprocessed ingredients. There is also a delicious selection of healthy baked goods created in-house. In addition to all the food menu items, there is also a small in-store market where Torontonians can purchase several hard to find products in Canada such as Hu's chocolate and Simple Mills. They frequently partner with several athletes and influencers in the health and wellness scene to create unique menu items. The bone broth is delicious, and I highly recommend you give it a taste!

Hype Food Co

You won't find any gluten, nuts, dairy, eggs, soy, sesame or seafood in this Leslieville establishment. Co-founder, Pauline Osena, helped create this allergy-aware, fast-casual restaurant as a safe spot for families with children and individuals to dine safely and worry-free.

Servers are highly knowledgeable about how to accommodate diners with Celiac Disease and avoid cross-contamination. Each location has a different vibe. The King Street location is an excellent choice if you are heading to the theatre afterward to watch a show. Being a mushroom lover, I am obsessed with their funghi pizza, and for dessert, the panna cotta is so delicious. They have recently launched their vegan menu as well, which also has some gluten-free options.

Tabule

This group of restaurants serves up tasty middle eastern cuisine. They offer many hot and cold gluten-free appetizers and entrees, including delicious falafels and laffa bread. I'm obsessed with hummus, and their version does not disappoint. There are also several vegetarian options on the menu. Not an entirely gluten-free establishment, but the staff are knowledgeable and will take good care of you, as the owner herself has issues digesting gluten. I've been told on Saturday nights there is also belly dancing, but I have not been lucky enough to catch a show yet! The Riverside location is gorgeous, and I recommend checking it out.

Basil Box

Their motto is Live. Love. Eat. With food inspired from the street markets of Southeast Asia. Having been to Thailand recently, I can appreciate this concept. Here you mix and match ingredients to create your own box. You start with a base of rice, noodles or greens, and add your veggies, proteins, and sauces to create your own unique combination. All the ingredients are 100% gluten-free, and there are also several dairy free and vegan-friendly options. I'm currently obsessed with their classic peanut sauce.

El Pocho Antojitos Bar

This place is a very cozy place; a hidden gem tucked away on a quiet street with a cute little patio. I visited too late one night, and they were all sold out of their gluten-free churros. I definitely will be going back for those! Everything they serve here is 100% gluten-free, except for a few beers. I really enjoyed their tacos and their loaded fries. Service is also on point here with creative cocktail options.
