King Kogy, Santa Clarita

by Lori Miller

King Kogy owner, Ju Yiadom's family and best friends have always run food businesses, and she says that over the years she's picked up things along the way that helped her feel confident enough to open a food business. Coming from an Operations and Mortgage Banking background, she always wanted to be in a food business, possibly a bakery or cafe but decided on the concept of rotisserie chicken blending Mediterranean flavors with Asian flavors. She says people in the Santa Clarita Valley, a suburb north of Los Angeles have been very receptive to the idea of mixing Mediterranean and Asian.

Ju says she gets lots of requests for gluten-free, dairy-free and nut-free meal options. The best selling GF option is the BB Rice Box. Its made with sautéed carrots, mushrooms, and zucchini, sesame vinaigrette kale, pickled cabbage, topped with an over-easy egg, green onions, and toasted sesame seeds over white or brown rice. Choice of Spicy Red Pepper Sauce or White Miso Sauce (half size options does not include egg). Her favorite menu choice is the BB Rice Box and Bahn mi Baguette (not GF). She is considering expanding her gluten-free menu options.

While I was there, I indulged in their amazing BB Rice Box with Roasted Tomato Salsa. Talk about Wow! Every bite reveals a new rush of incredible flavor. And for the first time in my life, I experienced a Tarragon and Blackberry soda! King Kogy has a natural soda machine with the most unique delicious flavors.
